Undead, Undead

It seems I have never been able to shake the “goth” label, even though I have not regularly DJed goth events in years, and I sometimes wear a colour other than black. Yes, I could still throw down an old school goth set in my sleep (“Transmission” followed by “Temple of Love”, genius). So, what better way to merge my past with electro bangers/new rave/blog house/whatever the ridiculous term of the day is that I currently play, than to post the Mekon remix of Siouxsie’s first solo single, “Into a Swan.”

Also, Mekon (John Gosling, who was in Psychic TV) never seemed to get the recognition he deserved. He did “D-Funktional”, a song with Afrika Bambaataa a few years ago, which is a perfect cross between his industrial past and newer dance music, with Afrika Bambaataa’s rambling on top. It was also on his “Something Came Up” album from last year.

All this talk of old school goth and industrial makes me think of another under-appreciated artist, Severed Heads. Tom Ellard is still putting out music as Severed Heads. Severed Heads were way ahead of their time, with most of their best music being made in the mid-80s. Their tracks “Dead Eyes Open”, “Hot with Fleas” and “All Saints Day” took the experimental sound of pioneers like Throbbing Gristle and brought it to the dancefloor.

I am travelling to a very cold part of the country for work this week, and I wanted to put together a crazy, rocking mix for when I am driving around. So, it’s below as well, enjoy.

Also, don’t forget, the next Lucky Pierre is Friday, December 7, at the Stud in San Francisco.

Work, Work, Work (Pub, Club, Sleep)

Idle hands, devil's playground, yada yada yada... Sadly, we don't have much of interest to say, but we do have some music to share. 6 has been hard at work in the studio (when he's not behind the decks). The fruits of his most recent labors are here for your enjoyment in the form of a bangin' electro remix of Kylie's newest single, 2 Hearts. While we dig anything by Alan Braxe, all the official remixes felt a little safe. 6's mix has been makin' the kids sweat at Lucky Pierre and Bender this month; you can decide for yourself. If you dig it, tell a friend, or something.

And while we're sharing shit you won't find on any other blog, please enjoy this hot new remix of Calvin Harris' "Colours." Get 'em on.

What else has shown up in our inbox lately? Oh, right, a new single from Liverpool's To My Boy called Fear of Fragility. While somewhat less electro than anything from their debut, Messages, it still makes you kinda wanna do the Molly Ringwald dance...in a good way...if that's possible.

And tonight's final word comes from friend of The Clique, Dan. This track brings together several shining lights of London nightlife. Readers Wifes are the DJs of Duckie who recorded "Nostalgia" a couple of years ago, with vocals by Justin Bond. (We remember Justin fondly from her San Francisco days of drag absurdist theater, before she left to find fame in New York and London with "Kiki and Herb.") This remix is by Atomizer, Jonny Slut and Fil OK of London's trailblazing electro club Nag Nag Nag.

Look for a new remix from Thieves Like Us and more nuggets of 'lectro goodness in the next few days. And join us at Heat on Friday night.

Hugs,

The Clique
